iPacifier!
I wonder if anyone (outside of Apple) has analyzed how much time is spent on an iPhone that isn’t Talk, Text, Safari Browsing or Pic/Vid-taking related. What that leaves is basically all Apps, Game Playing (and the downloading of). I think my total iPhone time is like 70% the later. I certainly use the core functions a lot, but all of these are done quickly, seconds by seconds, minute by minute. Even my phone conversations rarely exceed 5 minutes, but I can spend 30 minutes in a day bantering on Words With Friends (not to mention other online App games in rotation). Lest we not forget the daily iPhone-Jacking by my almost 8 and 5 yr olds, each deftly sliding to their dedicated game folders, and more recently finding the App Search function. Help..Me! Well, at least the older one knows to search the FREE Apps first! The new generation of iPhones will have to start with 32G!
The point is, I use my iPhone 4S for entertainment. Now my wife (who has a 4) also has an iPad2, which has become her ultimate portable entertainment. It is cool. Once they make a phone of it, and you can trash talk and play a friendly game App opponent at the same time, Apple will have crossed a new social threshold.
But entertainment takes a few forms. For the sake of entertainment…sure. To stave off boredom…sure. But more recently (as posted in my I GOT THE BOOT blog) to insulate from nervousness andanxiety.
It is the equivalent of a babies Pacifier, it’s an iPacifier! The ultimate Iccupier of Mind. Not OWS, but IMM (Iccupy MY Mind) so I don’t’ explode waiting for the security guy to take the boot of my car…wondering when my kids cease to be entertained by the radio and start complaining. I simply entranced myself and pretended none of it was happening. I don’t think my blood pressure or pulse went up one point or beat.
So maybe Apple will start marketing i-Products along medical terms, touting the coronary averse, Zen-like qualities of the new iPacifier. Then health insurance companies will start giving discounts to members who own them! Apple will profit more and continue to own everything. And then, basking in audaciousness and channelling Nostradamus, Apple will claim all along the logo itself was a nod to health and longevity by keeping the doctor away each and every day!
Don’t laugh, it could happen - and probably will.
